Located on the west coast of India in the region known as “Konkan”. The history of Goa stretches way back to 3rd century BC when it was a part of the Mauryan Empire. In 1370, Goa became part of Hindu Kingdom of Vijaynagar (Modern-day Hampi) until conquered by muslim forces 100 years later. The Portuguese, under Afonso de Albuquerque, annexed Goa in 1510 and ruled for 450 years thereafter. In 1961, Indian troops liberated Goa from the Colonial rule and hence was incorporated into India as Union Territory in 1962. Later, in 1987, Goa was conferred Statehood to become the 25th State of the India Union.
The Portuguese legacy can still be seen throughout Goa in its architecture, names of streets, the languages spoken amongst people, the customs, carnivals and festivals, and in the most delicious dishes.
Goa, an emerald land, is a “state” of mind. A mind that is completely relaxed, content, and jubilant. A completely uninhibited race of people known for hospitality, Goans eat, drink and party with abandonment. They paint their houses in the brightest bursts of colours and down shutters of their shops for hours on end for an afternoon siesta. They love life and live it splendidly, and they invite you to participate in the joie-de-vivre as well.
Come and explore the wonders of this magnificent land. Myriad opportunities promise to turn your holiday into an everlasting experience! |
